Marcelo the Legend

 Kamusta Fam,
This week was super good! So it started off right when I got a steal on my bananas! I got 1.6 kilos for 37 pesos. That is like 20 bananas for less than a dollar haha:) I know you were all wondering about that so I thought I would put it first in my email.

This week I finally got to give my first district council meeting. We have had zone con and zone leader meetings the last two weeks. Actually President Hughes came to it so that was a good surprise for me! Haha I did a pretty good job though so it was aight.

We had a super good lesson with the Deanofrata family this week. We just read through 2 Nephi 31 with them and talked more about their baptism coming up. They seem to really be accepting it in their lives now. Even though Elder Findlay and Elder Lungren were super close to dropping when I got here. We are super happy with the progress they have been making though!

I met Marcelo the Legend this week! He is an 82 year old recent convert that is a marathon runner! When he was 74, he ran 32 km in like 2 and a half hours! He is honestly the dopest man I have ever met haha! He still goes running for 2 hours every single morning. The thing is he smiles 24/7 but he can barely hear anything we say haha. You have to shout in his ear for him to hear, but anyway after our lesson I asked if I could take a picture of him next to all his awards  from the marathons. He tossed on his Monster hat for the pic! I was like oh yeah where your hat haha. Then he put it on backwards which made it even funnier. He wears a gold chain all the time too. Basically just overall the sickest Tatay I have ever met:) I'll send pics lol.

I went to my first MLC this week which was cool because usually it is just for the Zone Leaders. We talked all about how we need to be finishers in life, not just people that start goals and stop. He related 3 super cool stories from his life to the three main focuses he wanted to get across.

1.Suffering is part of the process of growth
 2.Being Finishers
3.Being in the right place at the right time

All his stories had to do with mountains which made me happy haha. I don't have time to write all the stories, but I do want to focus a little bit on what he talked about Being at the right place at the right time. This was actually a story in his life that he almost died. He was snowmobiling with his friend and they had one fall through ice into a lake and the other one was stuck in the snow. They were super far away from when they told people they would probably go, and they had no emergency kits with them. Basically he had to crawl out of the deep snow for 3 days until finally a helicopter found them. It was a crazy story and he testified how on the last day his friend said they were going to die, but he felt a prompting just "go." He didn't know where to go, why they would keep trying, but he knew they couldn't give up, even though they were freezing and hadn't had any food or water. Anyway they luckily got found and had some help out. They were in the hospital for 4 days until they were healthy again. He explained how he happened to be in the little meadow at the exact time the helicopter was flying over them to search where he told Sister Hughes they would be... but they ended up going the other direction because they only had 2 hours to ride. Or they thought they only had 2 hours lol.

He explained how it is hard to be at the right place at the right time. But we can only do it if we listen to the guidance of the Holy Ghost in our lives. He asked a bunch of us how we recognize when a prompting is from the Holy Ghost, and not just a thought in our head. He said sometimes Satan tries to trick us to thinking something is right by making us feel joy, or by making us emotional, or if it won't leave our mind. He is so smart with how he mimics the feelings we think could be the spirit. But there is one feeling that Satan isn't able to copy: The feeling of Peace. Only through the truthfulness of the gospel can we feel true peace in our lives. Only through a better understanding of Christ's atonement can we find this peace. When we realize what the peace of the Holy Ghost feels like in our lives, for us personally, we will be able to see God's hand so much more. Our faith will grow, and so will our joy.

It was an awesome leadership training. President Hughes is awesome, we are so lucky to be hearing his advice as often as we do. He closed that all by saying that we need to be finishers just like Christ was. He finished his purpose here on Earth to fulfill the atonement and give us Salvation. Through him we can be finishers no matter how big our goals are, no matter how much suffering we might have to go through, we can do it:)

Haha alright there's my sh-peel for the week, love you guys!
